Terms of Usage

Last updated: March 2026

These terms govern your use of Meow, a SIP softphone application developed by qFiber LTD ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Meow, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.

1Overview

Meow is a proprietary desktop application for making and receiving voice calls over the internet using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The software is available for Linux and Windows.

Meow connects to your SIP provider or PBX of choice. We do not provide SIP trunking, phone numbers, or call routing services. The quality and availability of your calls depend on your SIP provider and network connection.

2License Grant

Subject to these terms and payment of applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Meow on the number of devices permitted by your subscription plan:

  • Personal - 1 device
  • Professional - up to 3 devices
  • Enterprise - as specified in your enterprise agreement

Each license is tied to a hardware fingerprint. You may contact support to transfer a license to new hardware.

3Free Trial

Meow offers a 14-day free trial with full functionality. No credit card or payment information is required to start the trial. The trial period begins when the application first connects to our license server.

After the trial period expires, you must purchase a license to continue using Meow. Your settings, contacts, and call history are preserved regardless of license status.

The trial is limited to one per device. Reinstalling the application or resetting local data does not extend or restart the trial period.

4Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software
  • Copy, redistribute, or sublicense the software
  • Modify the software or create derivative works
  • Circumvent or tamper with the licensing system
  • Use the software for any unlawful purpose, including unauthorized wiretapping or call interception

5Data Collection & Privacy

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the licensing and update systems. Here is exactly what we collect:

License Validation

  • License key (to verify your subscription)
  • Hardware fingerprint - a SHA-256 hash derived from your CPU model, RAM size, network adapter MAC address, and machine ID. This hash is anonymous and cannot be reversed to identify you or your hardware.

Startup Telemetry

  • Device fingerprint (same anonymous SHA-256 hash)
  • Operating system type (e.g., Linux, Windows)
  • Application version number

Sent once per app startup. No IP addresses are logged or stored. You can disable this in Settings → Privacy.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • No call content, recordings, or metadata
  • No contacts or address book data
  • No call history or logs
  • No personal information (name, email, location)
  • No IP addresses on our servers
  • No SIP credentials (these never leave your device)

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties. Data collected for licensing and telemetry is used solely for operating the Meow service.

6Local Data Storage

Meow stores the following data locally on your device in a SQLite database:

  • SIP account credentials and configuration
  • Contacts and address book entries
  • Call history (incoming, outgoing, missed)
  • Application settings and preferences
  • License activation data

This data remains on your device at all times (except license validation as described above). You can delete all local data by uninstalling the application and removing its data directory.

7SIP Calls & Third-Party Services

Meow connects directly to your SIP provider or PBX. Voice calls are routed between your device and the SIP server you configure - they do not pass through any qFiber infrastructure. We have no access to your calls, their content, or their metadata.

Your use of third-party SIP services is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the practices of your SIP provider.

Meow communicates with the following qFiber-operated services:

  • License server - for license activation and periodic validation
  • Update server - to check for and download application updates

8Licensing & Activation

Meow uses an Ed25519 digital signature-based licensing system. Your license is validated periodically by contacting our license server. If the server is unreachable, a 7-day grace period allows continued offline use.

Each license key is bound to a hardware fingerprint. If you change hardware, contact support to transfer your license. We reserve the right to revoke licenses that are used in violation of these terms.

9Updates

Meow checks for updates automatically. Updates may include bug fixes, security patches, and new features. We recommend keeping the application up to date. Critical security updates may be flagged with higher severity in the changelog.

Updates are downloaded from our servers and verified for integrity before installation. You can view the update history on our Changelog page.

10Warranty Disclaimer

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement.

We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. VoIP call quality depends on your network connection, SIP provider, and hardware - factors outside our control.

11Limitation of Liability

In no event shall qFiber LTD be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, business opportunities, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the software.

Our total liability for any claim related to the software shall not exceed the amount you paid for your license in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12Termination

You may stop using Meow at any time by uninstalling the application. Your license remains valid until its expiration date regardless of whether the software is installed.

We may terminate your license if you violate these terms - specifically if you attempt to circumvent the licensing system, reverse engineer the software, or redistribute it. In such cases, you must uninstall all copies of the software.

13Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your data from our servers
  • Delete all local data by uninstalling the application and removing its data directory
  • Transfer your license to new hardware by contacting support

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below.

14Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the software after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
