Everything you need to know about Meow.

Getting Started

Meow is a native desktop SIP softphone for Linux and Windows, built with Qt 6 and PJSIP. It lets you make and receive voice calls over the internet using any standard SIP provider or PBX.

Yes. Meow is a SIP client, so you need a SIP account from a provider or your own PBX (like FreePBX or Asterisk). Your provider will give you a SIP server address, username, and password.

Yes! Meow includes a 14-day free trial with full functionality. No credit card required. After the trial, you can choose a plan that fits your needs.

Audio & Devices

On Linux, Meow works with PulseAudio and PipeWire (through its PulseAudio compatibility layer). On Windows, WASAPI and Windows Multimedia are supported.

Absolutely. Meow lets you select specific input and output devices from Settings. It also supports hot-plugging, so just connect a new device and it appears automatically.

Check that the correct audio devices are selected in Settings. Make sure your PBX allows media traffic (RTP ports 10000-20000 are commonly used). If behind NAT, enable STUN in your SIP account settings.

Licensing

Each license key is tied to a hardware fingerprint. Activate your key in Settings > License. The license validates online periodically, with a 7-day grace period for offline use.

Contact support to transfer a license. We can deactivate the old fingerprint and let you re-activate on new hardware.

After the 14-day trial, the app will prompt you to enter a license key. You can purchase one from the Pricing page. Your settings and call history are preserved.

PBX Compatibility

Meow works with any standards-compliant SIP server, including FreePBX, Asterisk, 3CX, FusionPBX, Kamailio, and OpenSIPS. If it speaks SIP, Meow can connect to it.

SRTP support is on the roadmap. Currently, Meow uses standard RTP for media transport. For encrypted signaling, configure your SIP account with TLS transport.

Yes. Meow works with any cloud PBX that provides SIP credentials. This includes hosted FreePBX, 3CX cloud, and SIP trunking services.
